May 2021. A big thank you to the Jewish Community Foundation of New Mexico for generously funding the Nutrition Program, which is part of the Asylum Seeker Food Box Distribution Program! The program introduces not only the US non-metric recipe and measuring system, but how to use many herbs and spices. It also provides cooking tools and supplements food box items with what is needed to cook the recipe of the month. ¡Buen provecho!

May 2021: In 18 days in March alone, 53 snack bags were handed out to hungry people who came to the door at the FCUCC church. Frito Lay has generously provided 100 bags of chips and five boxes of cookies! These will be included in the snack bags given out this month. Thanks to the Food Team for coordinating this appreciated donation. Community partners along with our volunteers to pack the bags are the best – thank you Frito Lay!

May, 2021: Valerie Griego, Social Services Coordinator of ABQ FaithWorks, collaborated with seven Albuquerque organizations to bring vaccines to Albuquerque’s mobile population. Together, they were successful in acquiring funding for Mobile Medical Units to deliver health information and COVID 19 vaccine through street outreach to the unhoused and sex workers. The service includes making services available at trusted sites and bus passes to get there. This important work addresses fears about medical care and vaccines, ultimately making group and shelter settings safer for the unhoused. People living on the street are often both ill-informed about healthcare and more greatly at risk due to age and underlying medical conditions. We are grateful to all of the collaborators on this great project: East Central Ministries, Centro Savila, Casa de Salud, Presbyterian Emergency Services – Community Health Workers, Access NM, The NM Department of Health and the Westside Emergency Housing Center.
