The team at ABQ FaithWorks attended the Faith-leaders breakfast on August 11th. It was an educative and inspiring meeting. The Mayor and other City leaders updated us on Albuquerque's efforts to address the issues of our unhoused neighbors in our city. There was also a reflection on the previous weeks' tragedies in the Muslim community.

We are proud to live in a community that emphasizes unity and collaboration in working through some of the most difficult issues we face as a city. We were reminded that we are stronger together.

Have you heard about the City of Albuquerque's newest department of public safety and the services they provide? Come meet with staff from Albuquerque Community Safety and learn how they serve our community and how you may access their expertise.

On July 28th, FaithWorks' Executive Director, Jessica Corley and Director of Asylum Program, Elijah Martinez, and three food team volunteers, Cheryl and Bill Foote and Alice Reardon, were treated to a tour of the warehouse owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ & the Latter Day Saints (LDS). The team from ABQ FaithWorks had the opportunity to learn about this important Mission of the Church of Latter Day Saints from Mr. and Mrs. Pack and Mr. and Mrs.

Sego.

ABQ FaithWorks has received a very generous $10,000.00 cash donation and $15,000 in food and supplies for our Food Distribution Program from the

LDS Outreach. Our Food distribution program recipients will benefit greatly from this new partnership, as they will be able to self-select items that are more culturally appropriate for themselves, receive more food and supplies than in the past, and be assured that they are receiving high quality fresh food.

In fact, we learned that the LDS produces/manufacturers and ships about 80% of their food, with factories, trucking companies and large farms scattered across the United States. Our team was very impressed with the local operations, the enormity of the process and the absolute cleanliness of the warehouse.

Many of us also learned important facts about the reason for their outreach mission and the fundamental beliefs of the Mormon people. We share a similar mission in that our ultimate goal is self-sufficiency for our families.

We are very excited about this new partnership and look forward to our first food distribution coordinated with their warehouse staff in mid August. We are so grateful for all of the faith-based partnerships we have been fortunate enough to establish in the last several months.
